Untitled (Hanging series I and IV)

Oil paint and oil pastel on mixed materials, 15x110 cm

These paintings are from the Lochnagar Series that juxtaposes colours from the land with sewn fabrics to create an abstracted landscape.

This work shows just a glimpse of the landscape. It is not vast and expansive, but intimate and restful. The elongated format speaks to many things.

When viewed as tall and expanded, the piece speaks to the height that was climbed, and resembles a natural monolith, such as the Callanish Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis.

When seen as thin and gently hanging, it relates to our fragility in the world, and could perhaps be seen as denoting a human form.
