Untitled (Lochnagar print IV)

Part of my Lochnagar series 2019/2020, this work evolved from in-situ sketches of the Lochnagar munro walk in the Cairngorms. 

Drawing in situ is fundamental in my research as a way of gathering information. It captures part of the experience in a different way to photography, the unsteadiness of the line expresses something about the physical experience. The accumulated forms of my sketches then feed into my monoprints, which allow me to work out compositions quickly and with energetic line.

The smudges and accidental marks capture the rawness of the experience, and the sienna ink echoes the reddish brown dirt on the Cairngorm paths.
