Andalusian Afternoon

Earth pigment and oil paint on sewn Strathberry leather off-cuts, 40x40cm.

This work came from a collaboration with Strathberry bags. I was inspired by Strathberry’s commitment to handcrafted items, and their recent repurposing of waste materials from the wine-making industry to create a leather alternative. This kind of circular, sustainable process is integral to my work and for this exhibition, I’ve integrated some off-cuts from Strathberry’s workshop. Stitching together these remnant textiles to create the base for painting, embeds the stories of these materials within the landscape of the work.

For this painting I kept the original features and shape of the leather off-cuts from the bag making industry.
